HUMLA, OCTOBER 17

The Election Commission has decided to set up a polling centre in Maspur village of Tajakot Rural Municipality, Humla, targeting voters in the village. As per the decision, a polling centre will be set up in Banadev Elementary School of Maspur village.

Earlier, The Himalayan Times had run a news report on the plight of the residents of Maspur village, who were compelled to walk three days to cast their vote in the local election. Following the publication of the news report, the Election Commission's Information Officer and Deputy Spokesperson Surya Prasad Aryal had vowed to set up a polling centre in the village.

The decision has made locals happy. Eighty-two-year-old Ause Rokaya says he is excited to cast vote once again after long.

"I haven't cast vote after the first Constituent Assembly election as it took up to three days' walk to reach the polling station to cast vote and get back. Now that we will have a polling centre in our own village, I'm very excited about casting ballot in this upcoming election in November," Ause said.

Maspur village has 23 households and a population of 103.
