Posthumous UN award for Nepalis

Kathmandu, May 29:

Four Nepali soldiers will be awared posthumously the Dag Hammarskjold Medal. Among the 124 peacekeepers to be honoured posthumously will be four Nepalis who died last year.

A press release issued by UN Information Centre in Kathmandu said, the Nepali soldiers who will be awarded are: Warrant Officer Rishi Ram, who died while serving in the UN Mission in Burundi on March 2, 2004; Corporal Mohan Singh Gha Ma, who died while serving in the UN Mission in Haiti on March 20, 2005; Sepoy Shyam Bahadur Katuwal, who died while serving in the UN Mission in Haiti on February 26, 2005 and Major Kabindra Jung Thapa, who died while serving in the UN Mission in the DR Congo on June 2, 2005. The medals will be received by representatives of the respective Permanent Missions to be forwarded on to the next of kin. This medal is posthumously awared to military, police and civilian personnel who lost their lives serving in the UNpeacekeeping operations.
