Prez appeals PM to mobilise resources for effective rescue, relief operations

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba called on President Bidya Devi Bhandari at the latter's official residence in Sheetal Niwas in the capital this morning.

On the occasion, President Bhandari expressed grief at the loss of lives and properties in the aftermath of the monsoon-triggered flooding and landslides, and drew the government's attention towards preventing the shortage of food supplies and medicines to the flood and landslide-stricken areas.

According to information shared by Press Advisor Madhav Sharma, the President appealed for mobilisation of the scout, national volunteers' corps, community based organisations including the private sector for effective rescue and relief operations.

President Bhandari stressed formulating immediate and long-term planning for natural disaster management. She advised the PM on endorsing necessary options for alertness and prevention in course of natural calamities in future.
