President urges top leaders for peaceful polls

KATHMANDU: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on Monday asked political parties to demonstrate political culture and make the upcoming provincial and parliamentary elections peaceful.

Addressing a greeting exchange programme of Tihar, Chhath, and Nepal Sambat at the Office of the President, the president said that it was responsibility of all parties to make elections successful.

“Electoral alliance and unification among parties are good signs for development and prosperity of the country,” President Bhandari’s Personal Secretary Bhesh Raj Adhikari quoted her as telling political leaders.

According to Adhikari, the president also said the upcoming elections had given opportunity to parties to be united and strong, which would help democracy.

Vice-president Nanda Bahadur Pun, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, former prime ministers KP Sharma Oli, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Lokendra Bahadur Chand and Chair of Interim Council of Ministers Khila Raj Regmi were present at the programme.

Likewise, Deputy Prime Ministers Kamal Thapa, Bijaya Kumar Gachhadar, CPN-UML leader Bam Dev Gautam, CPN-Maoist Centre leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Nepali Congress leader Ramchandra Paudel, the Rastriya Janata Party-Nepal leader Rajendra Mahato and Anil Jha and Federal Socialist Forum leader Rajendra Shrestha were present in the meeting. Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party leader Buddhiman Tamang, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party- Democratic Chair Pashupati Shumsher JB Rana and Deepak Bohara were also invited to the Shital Niwas greeting exchange programme.

FSF-N leader Shrestha said President Bhandari reminded leaders of the constitutional obligation to hold elections on the stipulated dates.

KATHMANDU: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has urged the top leaders of major political parties to complete the upcoming polls in a peaceful manner.

Issuing a press statement today, President Bhandari stressed on successfully holding the upcoming elections for the implementation of the constitution and federalism in the country.

According to the spokesperson Krishna Murari Neupane tea reception was held at the President's office on the occasion of Tihar and Chhath festivals. During the event  the President discussed about the latest political development in the nation.

On the occasion, Vice-President Nanda Bahadur Pun, PM Sher Bahadur Deuba, main opposition party leaders and other top leaders were present.
