Oli to attend Modi’s swearing-in ceremony
Kathmandu, May 28
Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli will attend the swearing-in ceremony of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today released a press statement stating that PM Oli would pay an official visit to India for PM Modi’s swearing-in ceremony.
PM Oli will leave Kathmandu for New Delhi on Thursday. He will be accompanied by his spouse and other high-ranking government officials. Modi became India’s prime minister for a second term after the landslide victory of his Bharatiya Janata Party and its coalition the National Democratic Alliance in the 17th Lok Shabha election.
During his visit, according MoFA, PM Oli will hold bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart Modi. But the issue of bilateral meeting has not been disclosed. “This is not a visit where the two countries will sign bilateral agreements. Those agreement will be held only after preparations,” said the MoFA source. “Now, we can’t say what they will talk. But obviously they will discuss relations between the two countries. It will be disclosed after their meeting, if something happens.”
In 2014, Modi was elected as the Indian PM for the first time and then prime minister of Nepal Sushil Koirala attended the swearing-in ceremony with heads of states of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation. This time, PM Modi has invited heads of states of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
