PM Deuba canvasses for NC in Province 2

Birgunj, September 15

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba today appealed to Madhesi people to cast their votes for his party Nepali Congress in Province 2 in the September 18 local level elections.

He claimed that his party’s victory in the plains would ensure sustainable democracy, protection of the rights, languages, traditions and culture of Madhes people.

Addressing an election gathering in Birgunj of Parsa, PM Deuba, also the president of NC, said Birgunj held historical significance as it was the place from where the 1950 anti-Rana uprising began under NC leadership.

“No matter whether it was the movement of 1990 or the uprising of 2006 or any other movements in the country, Nepali Congress has always led from the front. This shows that NC is ever committed to establish sovereignty of people. Being sovereign, people deserve the rights to form and change the government. All these rights had been possible in the country only due to NC’s leadership in all those movements,” argued PM Deuba.

He further said, “The people of Province 2 have remained decisive in politics of the country. We tried a lot to address your demands through statute amendment. However, we failed due to the lack of support from the major opposition,” he said.
