Probe panel grills four ex-CDOs

Kathmandu, August 2 :

The High-level Investigation Commission today interrogated four former Chief District Officers, Niranjan Baral, Shanta Raj Subedi, Gangadutta Awasti and Binod Kumar Adhikary, on the charge of suppressing people during Jana Andolan-II.

The four former CDOs told the commission that they had not ordered security personnel to shoot protesters during the Jana Andolan-II, a source said.

The commission also summoned former member-secretary of the National Sports Council Kishor Bahadur Singh and former chairman of the All-Nepal Football Association Ganesh Thapa. The commission has accused them of mobilising vigilantes against the protesters demanding democracy.

Meanwhile, rights activists, including Subodh Pyakurel, Suhil Pyakurel and Gauri Shankar Lal Das, today presented a memorandum to the panel, demanding that those accused of suppressing the movement be detained for investigation.

They have called for strong action against the suppressors.
