Al Thani is the first Qatari woman to scale Mt Everest, K2 and Lhotse and also the first Arab woman to reach the summit point of Kanchenjunga and Manaslu as well.

KATHMANDU, APRIL 15

Qatari royal family member Sheikha Asma Al Thani, today scaled the world's tenth highest peak becoming the first Qatari woman to climb Mt Annapurna.

According to Mingma David Sherpa, Director at Elite Expeditions, Qatari Princess Al Thani along with renowned mountaineer Nirmal (Nims) Purja stood atop Annapurna at around 4:00 pm.

Nims made it to the top without using supplemental oxygen, he claimed. "Al Thani is the first Qatari woman to scale Mt Everest, K2 and Lhotse and also the first Arab woman to reach the summit point of Kanchenjunga and Manaslu as well." She has now completed seven of 14 peaks above 8000m.

From Elite Expeditions, Anna Gutu from USA and Alasdair Scott Mckenzie from France also scaled Annapurna today. "Mingma Tenzi Sherpa (rope-fixing team leader), Dorchi Sherpa and Tejan Gurung also successfully scaled Annapurna," Mingma David said. Al Thani, Anna and Alasdair are on a mission to complete all 14 peaks.
