KATHMANDU, AUGUST 3
In a major relief for the drought-stricken Madhes Province, significant rainfall was recorded over the past 24 hours. Farmers warmly welcomed the precipitation, cultivating their fields and transplanting paddy seedlings on Sunday.
According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, while the eastern belt of the country received sufficient rainfall, the Tarai region experienced light to moderate showers. However, the eastern Tarai saw adequate rainfall to carry out paddy plantation activities.
Meteorologist Binu Maharjan from the Weather Forecasting Division stated that the rainfall over the Tarai occurred due to the monsoon's low-pressure belt shifting north of its average position-closer to Nepal. Although the weather remains cloudy nationwide, the rainfall has been sporadic.
Anarmani Birta Station in Jhapa district recorded 151.6 millimeters of rainfall in the last 24 hours-the highest in the region.
Several locations across most provinces experienced heavy rain on Sunday. Currently, rainfall is ongoing in both Koshi and Madhes Provinces. Rainfall monitoring centers across the country recorded precipitation exceeding 50 millimeters at numerous stations.
