The incessant rainfall has started damaging roads in Melamchi and Helambu areas of Sindhupalchowk district.

Melamchi-Helambu and Melamchi-Panchpokhari road sections have been obstructed due to flood that occurred on Friday night.

Melamchi-Helambu road has been obstructed every day putting human settlements of rural areas in the district at the risk of landslide.

Even though roads of Helambu Rural Municipality resumed in the afternoon, problems resurface due to road obstruction caused by rain.

The Melamchi Valley Campus Gyalthum is also at high risk. The rivulet is flowing close to the campus these days and the locals fear that the campus structures might be damaged by the swollen rivulet any time.

People living close to the bank of the stream from Kiul up to Melamchi have not been able to sleep well due to the risk.

"The flood is damaging the road day by day. We have been repairing it. The transport movement has been obstructed only for some time. We are vigorously working to reopen the road and protect the structures that are at risk," Helambu RM chairperson Nima Gyalzen Sherpa said.

A landslide occurred at Ramche of Melamchi Municipality has blocked the road. Mayor Aitaman Tamang said a dozer has been sent to the landslide site to remove the debris and open the road for traffic.
