Reconstruction grant agreement signing resumes at Raksirang

Hetauda, November 15

The grant agreement for reconstructing the damaged houses of victims of last year’s earthquake, which was halted due to disputes among local political representatives, started at Raksirang of Makawanpur from yesterday.

According to sources, the agreement was signed with 56 households on the first day.

“After the victims and the authority agreed to address the concerns of victims and move ahead, the campaign started,” said District Development Committee Makawanpur’s Planning Monitoring and Administrative Officer Kisan Neupane.

The grant meant for reconstruction of the houses of quake victims was yet to begin at Raksirang VDC at a time when the agreement signing process was almost over in other VDCs of the district.

“Though around 80 per cent of the victims have signed the contract, 20 per cent are yet to do so because of various reasons, including unregistered land, migration to other places and foreign countries,” said Neupane.

Raksirang folks were staging demonstration demanding the grant agreement while the contract signing process was almost over in other parts of the district.

It is reported that at least 340 households have been affected due to the earthquake at Raksirang.
