‘Right time to invest in Nepal’

Domestic entrepreneurs have urged their Indian counterparts to seize the opportune time of the present to invest in Nepal.

Speaking at the Nepal-India Trade and Investment Promotion Symposium organised jointly by the Consulate General of India and Birgunj Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Birgunj today, Nepali entrepreneurs urged their Indian counterparts to invest in potential sectors in Nepal citing a huge potential and investment-friendly environment now.

On his part, Consul General BC Pradhan informed the Indian entrepreneurs about the security of investment in Nepal. “With political stability, there is now immense possibility of trade and commerce in Nepal. Health, education, trade and tourism are a few sectors to name that carry immense possibility,” said the consul general, who also dwelt on the hassles importers from Nepal have to face during transit at Kolkata harbour.

On the occasion, senior industrialist Jagadish Prasad Agrawal expressed satisfaction at the rapid advancement in physical and legal infrastructure in Nepal in creating better investment environment here.

Similarly, while the Birgunj CCI chair Om Prakash Sharma said economic coordination with the bordering Indian states was an imperative for better trade and commerce, programme coordinator and Birgunj CCI secretary Manoj Kumar Das described the unique physical and geographical features of Nepal as the major incentives for investment.

Around 100 investors, including over 30 entrepreneurs from India, participated in the programme. The symposium saw participation of Indian entrepreneurs from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Bengal, among other Indian states.
