Ward chair locked up

Khotang, February 15

A group of dissatisfied people, with formation of a road construction consumer’s committee, locked up the Ward Chair at Rupakot-Majhuwagadi Municipality-15, Khotang, today.

Chairperson Birendra Dhakal of the ward was detained for a while by the disgruntled group over formation of the road construction consumer’s committee.

Chief District Officer Ek Dev Adhikari said that he learnt that a group of dissatisfied people had locked up the ward chair while they were in a bid to form the committee for construction of the Buipa-Bijayakharka road at a cost of Rs 3 million.

A squad of security personnel deployed from Buipa Police Post unlocked the office after some time. Security personnel arrested 4 persons for their alleged involvement in the misdeed. “As Dhakal was forming the consumer’s committees unilaterally without necessary consultation, we locked him inside,” said Prem Khanal, a member of the disgruntled group. They had also informed the administration about their dissatisfaction in writing.

However, Rupakot-Majhuwagadi Municipality Mayor Deep Narayan Rijal claimed that they were forming the committee following necessary procdure. “We found that the consumer’s committee was being formed after meeting all the norms,” said Mayor Rijal. The disgruntled group was absent in the general meeting but has defied the process due to ill-intention, said Rijal.

The foundation stone for the road was laid today morning.
