KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 26
Legendary climber Sanu Sherpa today stood atop the real summit of Mt Manaslu making the second summit of the 8163-metre peak in just five days.
Sanu stood atop Manaslu at around 1:45pm while Ekaterina Safronova and Marila Oglobleva became the first twin sisters from Russia to reach the true summit of Mt Manaslu, said Pemba Sherpa, Managing Director at 8K Expedition.
Sanu climbed Manaslu on September 22 while guiding his clients and today, he climbed it alone to clear any doubts about his double ascent of 14 peaks above 8,000m, Sherpa said. The Russian twins were guided by Pemba Tashi Sherpa and Gyaljen Sherpa, who also became the first brothers to reach the Manaslu real summit, according to Pemba Sherpa.
After Nirmal Purja 'Nimsdai', Sanu has also become the second Nepali climber to scale all 14 peaks above 8,000m if the real summit on Manaslu is only counted by the world record books. According to a record, Sanu had scaled Manaslu fore-summits in 2010, 2011 and 2016.
With double ascent of Manaslu real summit, Sanu is also the fourth person in the world to complete all 14 peaks above 8,000m till date.
