KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 22

Legendary climbers including Sanu Sherpa and Kristin Harila from Norway today made it to the true summit of Mt Manaslu, according to expedition orgnisers.

Pasang Sherpa, Chairman at Pioneer Treks, informed that Sanu along with Mingma Thinduk Sherpa and Chinese climber Hu Tao stood atop the 8,163-metre peak at around 2:50pm.

Being part of the Pioneer Treks Manaslu Expedition, Sanu, 48, rescaled Mt Manaslu this season to reach the true summit, Sherpa said. Earlier, Sanu has become the only climber in the world to scale all 14 peaks above 8,000m twice. "But, he has decided to re-scale Manaslu this season following the controversy over real versus fore-summit," Sherpa said, adding that he would again try to scale Manaslu to keep the record of double ascent intact. According to a record, Sanu had scaled Manaslu fore summits in 2010, 2011 and 2016.

Pemba Sherpa, Managing Director at 8K Expedition Pvt Ltd, said that Norwegian climber Kristin Harila along with Pasdawa Sherpa and Dawa Ongju Sherpa also stood atop the true summit on Mt Manaslu completing their 12th mountain in the shortest time. "They reached the top around 2:36pm," he shared. Three climbers completed 12 mountains in less than five months, he said, adding that the trio began their remarkable feat scaling Mt Annapurna on April 28, 2022.
