KATHMANDU, MAY 25

Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota today held discussions with former speaker Ramchandra Paudel on the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Paudel, who is also senior leader of Nepali Congress told THT they were of the view that resolution of all political issues should be sought within the HoR, but the PM's move dissolving the HoR was a fraud against the constitution.

He said the PM, who did not seek vote of confidence saying he did not command majority in the House, should have paved the way for other lawmaker to become the PM.

He added that Nepal's new constitution was not a pure Westminster model and Article 76 (5) contained the spirit of the American system where lawmakers were free to act independently.

The speaker's Press Adviser Shreedhar Neupane said that the former speakers were of the view that the PM's move dissolving the HoR was undemocratic and unconstitutional.

He said Sapkota would continue to discuss the issue with lawyers and other stakeholders.

Former speaker Subas Chandra Nembang, who is close to PM Oli, did not take part in the meeting. Former speakers Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Onsari Garti Magar also took part in the meeting.
