KATHMANDU, MAY 25

Former prime minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, who was expelled from the CPN- UML by party Chair and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli yesterday, issued an appeal today calling for establishment of the rule of law by sweeping away the Oli government.

He accused PM Oli of splitting the communist party at the behest of some conspirators and liquidating the communist movement.

Stating that Oli had betrayed the people and honest cadres of the party, Nepal said Oli acted against democracy, the constitution and the communist movement and there was need to protest against Oli's misdeeds. "Now the onus of unifying our movement for socialism by rejuvenating the communist movement is on us," Nepal said in his appeal.

He called on the people to protect the constitution and democracy by fighting against Oli's 'totalitarian and authoritarian acts.' Nepal said he had repeatedly warned Oli to mend his ways, but the latter ignored him. He blamed Oli's preference for dealing with middlemen for rendering the UML organisation ineffective. Nepal termed Oli's action against him and other leaders of his faction irrelevant, unauthorised and meaningless.

At a time when the country is ruled by a communist government, the proletariat class and all Nepali citizens are ignored and middlemen, compradors and mafias are reaping benefits, he argued. Nepal issued the appeal a day after the Oli faction of the UML expelled him and 10 other leaders of his faction, including Jhalanath Khanal Bhim Rawal, Mukunda Neupane, Ramkumari Jhakri, Sarala Yadav, Pushpa Kumari Karna, Kalila Khan, Nira Devi Jairu, Laxmi Kumari Chaudhary and Kalyani Kumari Khadka.
