KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 24

The Supreme Court has decided to conduct a consolidated hearing on writ petitions seeking the reinstatement of the House of Representatives (HoR).

The constitutional bench, led by Chief Justice Prakashman Singh Raut and comprising senior-most Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla and Justices Hari Prasad Phuyal, Manoj Kumar Sharma, and Nahakul Subedi, ruled that the supplementary writ petitions filed by eight former Nepali Congress parliamentarians would be heard together with the other related petitions.

According to Supreme Court Spokesperson Arjun Prasad Koirala, a total of 57 former Nepali Congress lawmakers have filed writ petitions demanding the restoration of the HoR.

In addition, a supplementary petition has been filed seeking its incorporation into the earlier petitions submitted by eight former lawmakers. The petition was lodged by Nepali Congress Chief Whip Shyam Kumar Ghimire and Whip Sushila Thing from the dissolved parliament.

Written responses have already been received from the Office of the President, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Office of the Speaker, and other concerned parties in connection with the 17 earlier writ petitions seeking HoR reinstatement.
