KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 18

The government-formed Search Committee tasked with investigating Nepal Sanskrit University's land holdings submitted its report to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday.

Committee Coordinator Shekhar Prasad Poudel presented the report, detailing the university's property status and offering recommendations to reclaim encroached land.

The Council of Ministers had established the five-member committee, led by former judge Poudel, in July 2024.

According to the report, the university owns a total of 1,662 bighas of land in Dang. Of the 1,336 bighas in the Deukhuri area, 910 bighas have been encroached upon, with the university receiving no benefits from the land since 2059 BS.

Poudel emphasized that government and political parties must take proactive measures to reclaim the encroached land. Additionally, 200 bighas of university land have been inundated by the Rapti River.

Upon receiving the report, PM Oli assured that necessary steps would be taken following further study and discussions. He stressed the need to end disruptive activities such as encroachment and padlocking within universities.

Minister for Education and university Pro-Chancellor Bidhya Bhattarai was also present at the occasion.
