226,000 security personnel to be mobilised for local elections

KATHMANDU: The Central Security Committee on Wednesday decided to mobilise as many as 226,000 security personnel for the local level elections slated for May 14.

While endorsing the security plan for the polls, the Committee estimated the number of security personnel.

The Committee meeting held under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Bimalendra Nidhi at MoHA endorsed the plan this afternoon, according to Nidhi's press advisor Ramjee Dahal.

During the meeting, Nidhi had directed chiefs of security agencies to prepare for a smooth implementation of the plan.

Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi, Defence Secretary Shreedhar Sapkota, Nepal Police Acting IG Dinesh Chandra Pokharel, Armed Police Force IG Singha Bahadur Shrestha, National Investigation Department Head Dilip Regmi and Nepal Army Lieutenant General Baldev Mahat among others were present at the meeting.
