KATHMANDU, JUNE 7
Kathmandu Metropolitan City Mayor Balen Shah has committed to managing solid waste in coordination with the urban development ministry with which KMC reached agreement.
Despite the agreement, locals at Sisdole have obstructed vehicles carrying garbage to Banchare Danda. An agreement was reached among representatives of the Ministry of Urban Development, Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Kakani Rural Municipality of Nuwakot and Dhunibesi Municipality of Dhading, to dispose garbage generated in Kathmandu valley from today.
Balen's PA Bhoopa Dev Shah said he was committed to do what he had said with regard to waste management. He shared the following message through his social media handle regarding garbage management: "Now the garbage will be managed."
This is good news for everyone.
We apologise for the inconvenience.
Also, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your patience.
But garbage management is not the only solution. There is still much to be done. We want long-term waste management, which cannot be solved by dumping garbage in any far place. The solution is not possible without you. That's why we urge you to remove at least two types of garbage from your room, home, office, and business. Separation of degradable and non-degradable waste makes it easier to manage. The easier the management, the sooner we can live in a clean and healthy Kathmandu, so that no one will have to live or die due to illness because of us. It may be a problem to separate the piled up garbage now, but we believe that you will now fulfil your duty regarding waste management by putting each garbage in at least two separate containers.
The metropolis will not repeat the previous weaknesses or mistakes. We will cooperate and try our best to separate the garbage at the source. We would like to assure you that the metropolis will not make the mistake of re-mixing the garbage that you have sorted.
Non-segregated garbage will not be collected. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Talk to your family, relatives and friends about spreading this information as soon as possible.
Let's all form a united front against garbage.
