Series of protests forces Far-West folks to reel under short supply of daily essentials
DIPAYAL: Locals in hilly districts of Far-Western Development Region are reeling under shortage of basic supplies thanks to a series of political movements one after another affecting transportation.
Two Far-West districts in the plains, Kailali and Kanchanpur, have been witnessing a number of political movements for different demands including Hindu state, undivided Far-West and Tharuhat province for last one month.
The movements also affected regularity of supplies to the hilly districts including Doti, Darchula, Dadeldhura, Achham, Bajhang, Bajura and Baitadi.
Markets in these districts have been reeling under insufficient stock of products including edible oils, instant noodles, fuels as well as mobile recharge cards, as bandh enforcers affiliated to various political parties have shut operation of load-carrying trucks in the region.
The plains also suffered a short supply of vegetables while those produced in the hill were thrown unused, a vegetable trader from Dadeldhura district, Dev Bahadur Bhandari, said. "We would sell vegetables to markets of various districts as well as of India earlier," he added.
Highlighting scarcity of basic consumables, a trader in Dipayal of Doti, Deepak Dhami, said, "We do not care a bit about whether a region remains divided or not; just we wish to work smoothly for the livelihood."
