KATHMANDU, APRIL 12

Three Sherpa climbers, who went missing in an avalanche above the base camp on Mt Everest, have not been found during aerial and ground searches and hopes that they would be discovered are slim, officials said.

According to the base camp officials, Pemba Tenzing Sherpa, Lakpa Rita Sherpa and Dachhiri Sherpa from Thame village of Khumbu were missing after a part of serac collapsed hitting the icefall route early this morning.

"Three Sherpa climbers fell into some 50 metres below in a crevasse after the ice serac damaged the climbing route," an official from the base camp shared.

Simrik Air chopper conducted a round of aerial searches but could not trace the missing climbers. "Aerial searches have been abandoned because of poor weather this afternoon," the official said.

Three climbers were part of a expedition organised by Imagine Nepal Treks, an official at the Department of Tourism said.
