Sindhupalchok's Melamchi Municipality begins free WiFi, city bus service

MELAMCHI: Wireless internet and network connection is now available for free in Melamchi Municipality of Sindhupalchok district.

Under the constituency special infrastructure programme, free Wi-Fi hotspots have been set up in six different locations of the municipality. The installation was made possible in collaboration with the Computer Association of Nepal (CAN).

CAN Federation Sindhupalchok Chapter Chair Prabhat Shrestha said that 30 routers each with the capacity of 1 MB and other required devices have been installed.

'Free WiFi' was one of the major slogans of the May 14 local level elections, and the newly elected people's representatives have lived up to their promises, said local resident Ramhari Dulal.

Meanwhile, city bus service has also begun in coordination with two local bus entrepreneurs committees—Ama Hyalmo and Helambu Yatayat. Four buses have begun operating since 5:00 pm on Wednesday.

Considering the Ama Hyalmo Buspark in Melamchi bazaar as the centre point, public bus service will be available from and to Shikharpur, Tipeni, Bhotechaur and Talaramang, according to executive officer of Melamchi Municipality Purna Prasad Dulal.

Currently, the bus fare has been set as per the price fixed by the bus entrepreneurs committees. However, it has been stated that the new fare would be fixed within a week after a meeting between the municipality and the bus entrepreneurs committee.

Locals rejoiced that they were benefited from the service as the buses began ferrying the passengers from the four stations to the bus park in Melamchi by 10:am everyday.

Member of Parliament Sher Bahadur Tamang and Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Dambar Aryal jointly inaugurated the free WiFi and city bus service amid a function held here on Wednesday.
