Siraha detainees worried as district court delays verdicts
Siraha, February 1:
Detainees at the Siraha jail said delay in issuing verdicts on their cases by the Siraha District Court has been worrying them.
Nineteen detainees at the Siraha jail have been awaiting verdicts of the court. Of them, 10 are awaiting verdict for two years and the remaining for over a year.
Seventy-two persons, who were detained on different charges, including robbery, cheating, attempted murder and drug trafficking, have been kept here, the jail administration said, adding the jail has been unable to decide as the court is not issuing its verdict on time. “The court had fixed the date of hearing on my case six months ago,” a detainee, Shivnarayan Pandit, who was detained on the charge of drug trafficking, said. It is learnt that uncertainty to fix dates for hearing on their cases has also been the concern of detainees. There is a long process before issuing verdicts on the cases of detainees, court registrar Yogendra Shah said. The court is yet to give its verdicts on cases of 58 detainees.
