Smuggled silver worth Rs 9 lakh seized

HETAUNDA: Ratomate Temporary Police post in Makawanpur district has arrested six personsĀ  separately including a police personnel for possessing 28.920 kg of smuggled silver.

The market value of the confiscated silver is approximately Rs 892,000, informed police.

Police arrested two persons on each of the three motorcycles with silver jewelleries hidden under pillions at different intervals of time on Wednesday.

Two persons arrested with 21.3 kg of silver jewellery worth Rs 84,952, hidden under the pillion of motorcycle (Na 28 Pa 3454) on Wednesday night, are identified as Ashok Kumar Sah (33) of Ganjbhawanipur-6 in Bara and Raj Kumar Das (40) of Bharbaliya-7 in Bara.

Two other persons arrested with 6.12 kg of silver jewellery worth Rs 182,326 hidden under the pillion of motorcycle (Na 10 Pa 4879) heading from Birgunj to Hetaunda on Wednesday night, are identified as Murari Kumar Sah Sarraf (20) of Birgunj-1 in Parsa and a police staffer Lahavar Prasad Yadav of Dhore VDC-4 in Parsa working at the police post in Chauki Tole in Makawanpur.

Other two persons with 1.5 kg of silver jewellery worth Rs 25,000 hidden under the pillion of motorcycle (Na 29 Pa 2828) heading from Birgunj to Hetaunda, are identified as Binod Prasad Sarraf (33) of Kalaiya Municipality-7 in Bara and Sujit Raya (36) of Gausala-2 in Mahottari.

The arrested were sent to the Department of Revenue Investigation (DRI), Central Regional Office, Pathalaiya, Bara for further investigation, informed spokesperson of Makawanpur District Police Office, DSP Shishu Sharma.
