KATHMANDU, JULY 29

A three-member Nepali team led by legendary climber Mingma Sherpa successfully scaled Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe, this morning.

Under the Seven Summit Treks Mt Elbrus Expedition -2022, SST Chairman Mingma Sherpa, Director Pasang Phurba Sherpa and General Manager Thaneswar Guragain stood atop the 5642-metre peak, expedition organizer said.

"We made it to the top of Mt Elbrus at around 6:30am local time," Guragai said. According to him, this is the first Nepalese expedition to Elbrus after the COVID -19 pandemic.

Mingma, who is the first South Asian as well as the first mountaineer to climb all 14 peaks above 8,000m on the first attempt, has also completed six of the seven summits after scaling Elbrus. Mingma will attempt to scale Carstensz Pyramid to complete all the highest peaks of the seven continents soon.

"Pasang Phurba, who completed two summits, is also on his mission to follow Mingma's footstep," Guragai, who currently holds 19 world records in his name, informed. The team also unfurled the national flag on the top of Elbrus summit, he added.
