Statute amendment a must for resolution: Nidhi
Hetauda, December 1
Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi stressed the need to amend the constitution to resolve the prolonged Tarai unrest.
Speaking at a press meet in Hetauda today, Nidhi accused the government of being indifferent to the need to amend the constitution. “We may get relief from the present embargo, but the blockade on the country’s constitution may push the country towards a never-ending crisis. Hence, we need to be more conscious about the issue,” said Nidhi.
Nidhi said the country might face another crisis if it failed to implement the major issues and structures encompassed in the constitution on time.
“Nepali people have got the constitution after a long time. Everybody wants ownership of the constitution, but it needs to be amended for that. Amendments are the need of the hour. But CPN-UML has been derailing it,” he said.
“It is the government’s responsibility to address genuine demands of agitating parties. The recent clash between NC leaders and agitating forces indicates conflict in the future. Hence, the government requires to be more serious,” he argued.
