Students avail of basic computer education in Bakhet village

MYAGDI: A local community in a village of Myagdi has taken an initiative for adding basic computer education in the children's curriculum in Bidyodaya Lower Secondary School located in Bakhet village of Patlekhet VDC.

The step to include the computer education has made the basic computer training available for the children in the village. The former Gurkha armies – who served in the Indian Army and the British Gurkha Regiment, including villagers currently living abroad along with the locals took the initiative to start computer education in the school formally last year.

One of the schools Principal, Man Bir Kisan said the students got the opportunity to learn information technology (IT) related courses with the start of the Computer Education and Computer Literacy Campaign.

The principal added that children could now learn computer as the subject has been made compulsory for grade 6 to 8 and optional in grade 4 and 5. A total of 30 persons have been taking basic computer lessons every year under the computer literacy campaign started by the village community.

The former Gurkha armies donated land, property and building worth Rs 650,000 for computer training, while residents of Bakhet village who are living abroad have provided 20 computers.

The District Education Office has donated Rs 140,000 to expand the scope of the campaign, the school said.
