RAUTAHAT, JANUARY 13

There have been allegations that the authority concerned has resorted to silence even though substandard work is going on in the construction of the railway track bed along the Bardibas-Nijgadh section of the East-West Railway Project.

The railway project is a highly ambitious project of Tarai-Madhes, but apparently there has been negligence in its construction and the authorities concerned have turned a blind eye to the frequent reports of negligence, locals said.

As per the standard practice, mixed gravel and soil is rolled to create a 15-centimetre thick layer for the track bed. Locals have accused the contractor of using sand to create the track bed. "As the technicians are also not bothered to check the quality of work, the contractor is doing whatever it wants, which is unfortunate," said local Manoj Yadav.

Meanwhile, in the wake of locals' protest and pressure, Rail, Metro Rail and Mono Rail Development Project Nijgadh-Bardibas stretch site office Lalbandi engineer Bodha Bhandari has asked the contractor of Lama Goldengood Biruwa JV to redo the work to maintain the standard.
