Support extended to 'haliya' children without parents
BAJURA: Support has been extended to two children of Budhinanda Municipality-5 in Bajura district who were left with only bare minimum livelihood support.
After a news was published on April 25 about the children being left without required support, Kathmandu-based Orphan and Helpless Children Development Society decided to provide support to the kids.
Chief of the organisation Ramesh Dev Sunar said, the attention of the organisation was drawn to the condition of the children after the news was published about them. He added that they had already corresponded to the District Child Welfare Committee for recommendation in order to take charge of the children's care, and that the responsibility of the children, including their education, would be borne by his organisation.
Chief District Officer Luk Bahadur Chhetri said, the children's documents have already been requested for, receiving which the recommendation would be taken forward.
Samana Luwar (8) and Laxman Luwar (5), who do not have both their parents, have been dependent on their grandfather Gagane Luwar (63).
Their father Lali Luwar died four years ago from tuberculosis. A relative Kaluwa Luwar shared that their father lost his life in lack of treatment due to weak financial condition of the family. He further informed that after the death of their father, their mother also remarried one year ago and left them, leaving the two children deprived of parental care and support.
The family of Gagane Luwar are haliyas. Luwar works on other people's farms in order to provide for the children. Having no property to his name, he said that he has not been able to send the children to school.
"I work all day long for the landowner, and that is how we eat. The children do not have any provisions that they could take to school. They have been deprived of education due to our weak financial condition," shared Gagane Luwar.
