Talks between govt, UDMF deferred owing to lack of homework

KATHMANDU: The talks between the government and the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), scheduled for today, have been deferred.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa, who heads the government talks team, said the meeting was postponed in order to do more homework.

Earlier, the talks were said to be held between the two sides at 1 pm at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, today.

It has been learned that the talks were postponed after the protesting UDMF claimed that it was not informed for the meeting in advance.

The next date for the talks has not been finalised yet.

The two sides have not held any talks since November 2, when an Indian youth was killed in police firing during the UDMF protests.

In response, the agitating UDMF parties had protested the police action saying there was no meaning of holding dialogue with the government then.
