Talks with govt not possible now: MJF chairman

New Delhi, April 30:

Chairman of the Madhesi Janaadhhikar Forum (MJF), Upendra Yadav, today said there was no possibility of holding talks with the government at present.

Speaking at a press meet here, Yadav said the government has neglected the MJF’s demands of forming a high-level commission to probe the Tarai unrest and the resignation of home minister.

“The government has not taken our demands seriously,” he said, adding: “Forty-six persons were killed and over 700 sustained bullet injuries during the agitation. So, there is the need for forming a commission early.” “Though we are positive about talks, we don’t think that the talks will be held, as atmosphere for the same has not been created yet,” he said. “If talks are not held, we will stage agitation again.”

Saying that there is no involvement of Hindu extremists and royalists in the agitation, Yadav said: “We had not attacked Maoists.” He said the CA polls are not possible until the Terai problem is resolved.

Meanwhile, speaking at the Reporters’ Club in Kathmandu today, Madhesi leaders said CA polls cannot be held without first resolving issues raised by the Madhesis and Janajatis.

NC joint general secretary Dr Ram Baran Yadav, however, said that two key demands of the MJF — delimitation of constituencies and formation of a commission to probe incidents that occurred during the Tarai agitation — have been met. Royalists had infiltrated the Madhesi agitation to disrupt the CA polls, Yadav said at the Reporters’ Club.

Minister of State for General Administration Ramchandra Yadav said the government talks team today sent a letter to the Chure Bhawar Ekta Samaj urging it to sit for talks. Maoist leader Nanda Kishor Pun (Pasang) said they demanded a republic because there was no possibility of elections being held in June.
