Tarai outfits clamour for talks

RAJBIRAJ: Madhes Mukti Tigers, Madhesi Virus Killers, Tarai Samyukta Janakranti Party and Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha-Rajan, which have sat for the first round of talks with the government, today urged the resumption of the stalled talks at the earliest. The four have also decided to form an alliance to press the government for the implementation of the earlier agreement.

Peace talks initiated by the UCPN-Maoist-led government have not been continued by the new government. Organising a press conference in Rajbiraj today, the outfit leaders demanded talks at the earliest, threatening to intensify their activities in the failure. The alliance would fulfill the aspirations of the Madhesi people and tackle the changed situation, they claimed.

JTMM leader Rajiv Jha alias Utkarsha Mukti said efforts were underway to form a broader alliance of armed groups operating in the Tarai. He sought a clear stance of the government towards the Tarai armed outfits .

The demands of the alliance include formation of the government talks team and end of police action against them. MVK chairman Jaya Prakash Yadav warned of returning to armed struggle if the government did not pay heed to their demand. He said their cadres were being constantly targeted lately.

Central chairman of Madhes Rastra Janatantrik Party Ram Narayan Mahato alias Sandesh, Parshuram Yadav of MMT, Avinash Mukti and Akash Tyagi of JTMM were killed in police action in the past two weeks.
