KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 17

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli emphasized the pivotal role of science and technology in realizing the national aspiration of a "Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali."

In a message marking the 12th National Science Day, the Prime Minister underscored the importance of reviving Nepal's historical tradition of scientific discovery, lamenting that despite a strong foundation in ancient times, the country had not advanced its own system of scientific development.

"The government recognizes science and technology as the backbone for accelerating development projects," stated PM Oli. He emphasized that science and technology education must serve as a driving force for progress, calling for the strengthening and empowerment of existing institutions in the sector.

The government, he added, has adopted a long-term policy to establish a high-level commission tasked with drafting and implementing plans to restructure these institutions.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the allocation of resources for initiatives such as innovation funds and start-ups to foster research, entrepreneurship, and youth-centered programs.

He stressed the need for fact-based policy formulation and the implementation of science-driven programs to advance the nation's development goals.
