CHITWAN: A 40-year-old woman was reportedly beaten to death by her son at Mangalpur of Bharatpur Metropolis-15 in Chitwan district on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as local resident Sabita Darai and the accused perpetrator as her son Ashish (19).

According to the Chitwan District Police Office, Darai was tied with a rope around her neck, hands and feet, and thrashed with a broom by her son at around 10:30 am today.

The son had allegedly hit his mother as a punishment to change her mother's drinking habit. The mother who was under the influence of alcohol inflicted critical injuries on her head, said police.

She breathed her last while she was rushed to a hospital in Bharatpur, said police.

Meanwhile, the Narayangadh-based Police Post has taken the perpetrator under control for further investigation.
