ITAHARI: Three persons were arrested on charge of beating a woman, in accusation of practising witchcraft, in Sunsari district on Sunday.

Ramesh Kumar Mehata, Ranjit Mehata and Amarlal Mehata, residents of Gadhi Rural Municipality-4, were arrested for beating a woman who was allegedly performing an exorcism ritual at a local temple in order to treat another woman.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the local health unit, police said.

It has been learnt that the arrested brothers were acting on an instruction from their father Suwa Lal Mehata.

Meanwhile, police have launched necessary legal action against the youths who were trying to force the accused woman to leave the village.
