Three hurt during protests

Kathmandu, March 5:

Three persons, including two policemen sustained injuries, when demonstrators attacked the police during a protest rally organised by the Conflict-hit Army, Police’s National Struggle Committee here today.

Police constables Narayan Dutta Bhatta and Niranjan Thapa of Metropolitan Police Sector, Singha Durbar, were injured in the scuffle. The rally started from Khulamanch and

was converged into a mass meeting at Bhrikuti Mandap.

National commander of the struggle committee Bhesh Bahadur KC said the policemen and army men who deserted jobs during insurgency should be reinstated as they were forced to quit due to the Maoist threat at gunpoint. “We were compelled to leave our jobs since the then government failed to provide security to our families,” he said. “The Maoists had promised to reinstate us as soon as they reach to power.” The conflict-hit army and police personnel have been staging protests, demanding job reinstatement, appropriate compensation to the conflict-hit security personnel and salaries and perks for the period since day they quit the jobs till now.
