Traffic resumes on Arniko Highway

Sindhupalchowk, July 2 :

Traffic on the Barabise-Kodari section of the Arniko Highway resumed today after three days after a Nepal Army officer apologised in public for his mistake.

Nepal Army Lieutenant Kishor Singh today sought apology for manhandling a container van conductor Surya Bahadur Karki at a security check post in Jhirpu on matters related with registration of his vehicle on Friday.

Irate transport workers, following the incident, had disrupted traffic at Das Kilo of Barabise-Kodari section of the Arniko Highway seeking public apology for beating a transport worker.

Earlier, a meeting of the representatives of Nepal Transport Free Workers’ Organization, Truck Container Association, Commander of Shatrumardan Company of NA, Laxman Thapa and Inspector at the Area Police Office, Barhabise, Ram Prakash Shah, had agreed that the army personnel would apologise for his misdeed and the transport workers would end their strike in return, said secretary of Arniko Route Truck Unit of Nepal Transport Free Workers’ Organization, Ramhari Nepal.

“We have withdrawn our protest programme after the guilty official sought apology,” said secretary Nepal.

Earlier, the district security committee had decided that the police would be responsible for security checks along the highway.
