KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 26

Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal announced that the Janakpur-Ayodhya railway service is in its final stages and will soon be operational.

Speaking at a press conference at Janakpurdham railway station, he outlined government plans to make Nepal Railway Service more efficient and profitable, including the establishment of washing centers and the launch of cargo services.

Minister Dahal, while inspecting the railway and road projects in Janakpurdham, highlighted that the railway will be extended to Bardibas once the land compensation disputes are resolved. Currently, the service operates from Jayanagar (India) to Bhangaha, Mahottari, carrying over 1.5 million passengers in 2023/24, with 3,000 daily travelers.

The Nepal Railway Company, assisted by Indian financial and technical support, employs Indian staff and pays Rs 7 million monthly for operational costs. Expansion plans aim to extend the railway from Kurtha to Bardibas within three years, totaling 69 kilometers once completed.

Minister Dahal reiterated the government's commitment to expanding railway services and ensuring the prosperity of the Madhes province through ongoing infrastructure projects in Mahottari and Dhanusha.
