A Turkish Airlines flight was safely diverted to Kolkata, India, on Wednesday after a fire warning was detected in its right engine.
The Istanbul-bound flight from Kathmandu, designated THY 727, reported a fire signal within four minutes of takeoff from Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) at 1:29 PM.
A press statement issued by the TIA Search and Rescue Coordination Centre said the aircraft had informed Kathmandu approach control of a "right engine on fire, 4DME west" shortly after departure.
Following the alert, the flight remained airborne briefly before being redirected to Kolkata. It landed safely there at 3:03 PM, the Centre added.
A total of 236 people, including 11 crew members, were on board. All passengers and crew members are reported safe, according to TIA.
