The bodies of two of the three children who went missing while bathing in the Lalbakaiya River in Rautahat were recovered 2.5 kilometres downstream on Wednesday morning, with the search for the third child continuing.
The bodies of 10-year-old Mohammad Ramtullah and Sabanam Khatun were found floating in the river around 7am in the Jingadawa area of Paroha Municipality-2, according to the District Police Office, Rautahat.
The three children had gone missing at around 1:50pm on Tuesday while bathing in the river at Laxminiya in Dewahi Gonahi Municipality-2. All three - Ramtullah, Sabanam and 10-year-old Raushan Khatun - were residents of Laxminiya.
Police and Armed Police Force teams had launched a search shortly after the incident, with a specialised diving and rescue team joining the operation. The search continued until late Tuesday night before resuming early Wednesday.
According to police, the two bodies were recovered about 2.5 km south of the spot where the children had gone missing.
Police said the bodies were being taken to the Provincial Hospital for postmortem examinations. The search for the third missing child, Raushan Khatun, was continuing.
