Two killed, five missing in Dolakha landslide

KATHMANDU: Two persons died and five others went missing after an incessant rainfall-triggered landslide buried four houses at Chyotchyot in Lamabagar VDC-4 of Dolakha district on Wednesday night.

The deceased have been identified as Badule Tamang (21) and Pem Maya Tamang (20) while those missing are Pat Maya Tamang (40), two-year-old Kshesang Tamang, Satamai Tamang (70), Trisi Tamang (25) and Mangale Tamang(45), all from Lamabagar VDC-4.

The incident occurred after the landslide completely buried four houses at around 11 pm, said police. The incident site is about 55 km away from the district headquarters Charikot.

Meanwhile, the teams of security personnel deployed from the Dolakha District Police Office, Nepal army  and Armed Police Force Unit based in Lamabagar have been jointly carrying out operation to rescue those who are buried, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rabin Karki of the Dolakha DPO informed.

In a separate incident of landslide in the district, police rescued Min Bahadur Thakuri (56) of Lamabagar VDC-4 and a Chinese national Bixueliang Chi (53), an employee of Upper Tamakoshi Hydropower Project, who fractured his leg in an attempt to run away from rubble being swept by the soil erosion, informed police. Those rescued have been sent to a health facility in Charikot for the treatment, said DSP Karki.

Several other landslips have been reported in the eastern region of the district last night.

The amount of property destroyed in the disaster is yet to be estimated, police informed.
