SURKHET, APRIL 20
Kulman Ghising, chair of the Ujyalo Nepal Party, has urged the government to withdraw the recent increase in petroleum prices, citing its impact on remote regions.
Speaking at a press meet in Birendranagar during a provincial-level party gathering, Ghising said Karnali's difficult terrain already makes transportation costly and called for special fuel subsidies in the region.
He argued that rising prices of diesel, petrol and cooking gas would hinder tourism and daily mobility, adding that the government should reduce the burden on citizens.
Ghising also claimed that significant investment-around Rs 35 billion-had been secured for electrification and transmission line projects in Karnali during his tenure at the Nepal Electricity Authority.
He said work on a 132 kV transmission line has reached Jumla and reiterated his party's plan to expand its organisation to the grassroots level ahead of upcoming elections.
