KATHMANDU, JANUARY 16

With the support of Seoul National University (SNU), Korea, and collaboration of Lumbini Buddhist University (LBU), Um Hong Gil Human Foundation has successfully completed two different programs in Sundi Secondary School (SSS) in 2021.

THe first programme was Virtual Reality Development and the second one was Online Mentoring.

In the first program, altogether 39 students took part (SNU – 10, LBU – 16, SSS – 13), where they learned the overall procedure of VR development (Theoritical + Practical knowledge) including planning, shooting and editing from the Korean VR expert via online medium. All the students were divided in 6 groups and prepared 6 different videos on 3 different topics (Nature, Culture & School Life). The main purpose of the VR program is to make the student and locals familiar and inspire with the world's latest technology – Virtual Reality.

On January 14, students held a final screening program of all the 6 videos at the Auditorium of LBU maintaining the strict COVID 19 protocol. The program was minimised with 24 physical attendance and around 100 participants participated via online.

The Registrar of LBU, Mr. Tilak Ram Acharya, Country Director of UHGHF Mr. Lim Haehoon, Principal of SSS Mr. Satish Chandra Mani Tripathi attended the program physically whereas, around 100 participants including SNU Social Responsibility, Chairman Mr. YaeMyungseok, took part via online.

In the Mentoring Program, there were 40 students, actively took part being Mentor and Mentees dividing into 5 different groups (Career, Computer Skill, Learning English, School Life and Tourism. The topics were finalised on the base of the survey conducted over the student prior the program. In this program SNU and LBU students were Mentors and SSS students were Mentees.

During the 2 and half month long program period, both programs had two Mid Term review sessions where all the participants discuss their ideas, achievements and further plans.

Online Mentoring Program had its Final Completion Session on January 13, 2022, where students made the commitment to run the similar programs in LBU and SSS with establishing Student Club in both institutions for the sustainability of the program.

UHGHF implemented the Virtual Reality program and Online Mentoring program at Sundi Secondary School, Rupandehiin a close coordination with Seoul national University which was facilitated by Lumbini Buddhist University, Rupandehi. The program organized for 3 months (November 2021 to January 2022). The main objective of program was to introduce the new technology in community school for education.

Sundi Secondary School is located in Mayadevi Municipality, Rupandehi, very near to Lumbini, the birth place of Lord Buddha. It was established in 1963 AD with the initiation of local public.

This schoolis located in the back warded community so majority of the students, almost 90% of the students belong to the deprived terai community.

In the beginning, it was constructed using local available materials. In 2014, with the recommendation of then District Education Office of Rupandehi, UHGHF supported this school with earthquake resistant RCC building (11 classroom), Gender Friendly Toilet, Sufficient furniture and renovation of existing 3 buildings.

It also supported school with ICT lab, Library with more than 7500 books and boundary wall construction etc. This is the 10th Human School of UHGHF. Currently, the school runs classes from ECD to Grade 10 with 862 students. It is securing the admirable results in a government board exams and regional competitions as well.

Um Hong Gil Human Foundation was established in the name of World Famous Mounataineer and Philanthropist Captain UM HONG GIL, also known as "Tank of the Himlayas" who scaled 16 highest mountains of the world, above 8000m height.

Um Hong Gil Human Foundation (UHGHF) is a non profit making, non religious, non political, non governmental charitable organization established in Korea in 2008. The major working area of Foundation is Educational Development, especially in remote parts of Nepal. Moreover, it has also worked in Health and heritage preservation area as well.
