Kathmandu, November 29

The election for top posts of the CPN-UML at the party's ongoing General Convention being conducted at Chitwan, is set to begin Monday night.

After the establishment's attempts at electing a unanimous leadership failed to materialise, the convention has taken a course of a poll to settle the issue, which will begin as late as 9:00 pm today and go on until past midnight.

Party chair KP Sharma Oli and his close confidants made every possible effort to end the convention on a 'unanimous' note, which unfortunately for them was foiled by leader Bhim Rawal who decided to run against Oli for the post of party chief.

Soon after, leader Ghanashyam Bhusal too announced his candidacy for vice-chair's position, which was followed by a a few more candidatures.

The final list of candidates that will fight the polls has already been published.

Meanwhile, a few important posts, including that of the senior most vice-chair, secretary general and deputy secretary general, have already been filled as the leaders that were nominated for these posts faced no contenders.
