HETAUDA, JANUARY 30
The main opposition CPN-UML has filed candidacies only for election of the heads of two provincial committees of Bagmati.
Election is being held to pick presidents for the Finance and Development Committee and Education, Health and Agriculture Committee in the Provincial Assembly.
As per the election schedule, the time to file candidacies expired at 5:00pm today. Only UML is said to have filed its candidacies before the deadline today.
While UML has forwarded Kathmandu's Narayan Bahadur Silwal as its candidate to head the Finance Committee, Kathmandu's Keshav Prasad Pokharel has been fielded as its candidate to head the other committee on Education, Health and Agriculture.
Finance Committee and Education, Health and Agriculture Committee have 20 and 19 members respectively, and as per the law, one person among the respective members is elected to head each of the committees.
Provincial Assembly Secretary Krishnahari Khadka said elections for the positions will be held tomorrow.
While election to the position of Finance Committee president is held at 12:00pm, election is scheduled for 2:00pm for the next president position.
As per sources, parties under the ruling coalition didn't file candidacy for the positions given the fact that UML already makes up the majority in each of the committees.
UML has 12 members from the party in both the committees.
According to a ruling coalition leader, the ruling side will be absent during the voting tomorrow.
