RASUWA, MAY 28

The 216MW Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project has achieved a key construction milestone with the successful operation of its newly installed weir gate, marking progress toward completion of the major energy project.

The operation ceremony was attended by Park Taeyoung along with government officials, project stakeholders and local representatives in Rasuwa district.

The Embassy of South Korea said the milestone marks an important step in the final phase of construction of the run-of-river hydropower project, which is scheduled for completion by mid-2027.

Ambassador Park said South Korea has remained a trusted development partner of Nepal for more than five decades and highlighted expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

The project is being developed by Nepal Water and Energy Development Company (NWEDC), with investment from Korean firms Korea South-East Power Co. (KOEN) and Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), along with the International Finance Corporation.

It is being financed through a mix of 70 percent debt and 30 percent equity, with loans from the Asian Development Bank, Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and Korea Exim Bank.

Around 250 participants, including officials, engineers, local residents and media personnel, attended the ceremony.
