Varsity appointments to be based on ability, skill, says PM

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that office-bearers at universities will be appointed in a transparent manner on the basis of capacity and skill.
Receiving a memorandum submitted by the office-bearers of the Democratic University Teachers’ Association at the Office of the Prime Minister in Baluwatar today, Prime Minister Oli said that he was against running the universities on the basis of political power sharing, stated the press release issued by the PM’s press adviser Pramod Dahal.
A delegation led by Association Chairman Uday Kishor Tiwari drew the PM’s attention to the appointment of office-bearers at universities as well as in the University Grants Commission in a transparent manner on the basis of skill and capacity and to make the required legal arrangement to run academic programmes in a fair manner.
Giving assurance on the appointment of office-bearers on the basis of qualification, capacity and skill, Oli said there would be no discrimination in this regard, stated the press release.
He said, “Our education and educational institutions should be qualitative.”
The PM said lockout and strike should not be carried out at educational institutions and hospitals in the name of getting the demands fulfilled.
