Veteran writer-poet Banira Giri has passed away at the age of 75.
She passed away after suffering a major heart attack on Sunday night. She was taken to Civil Hospital for treatment. Giri had also tested positive for Covid-19.
An eminent poet, Banira Giri became the first Nepali woman to be awarded a PhD from Tribhuvan University for her research work on poet Gopal Prasad Rimal.
The celebrated writer is a recipient of numerous awards and was also conferred the Sajha Award.
She was suffering from Alzheimer's disease for the past three years.

Her noted works include Euta Jiundo Jung Bahadur, Jeevan Thayamaru, Shabdatit Shantanu, Karagaar, Nirbandha, among others.
Born in 1946 in Kurseong, in the Indian state of West Bengal, Giri is survived by her husband, Shankar Giri and two children.
